Role Overview

The Enterprise Planning & Engineering (EP&E) Specialist is an entry-level engineering role designed to develop future technical leaders in transportation engineering and enterprise operations. Working alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams, you will support initiatives such as network optimization, pricing improvement, capacity planning, and linehaul optimization. This is a hands-on, analytical role with mentorship and growth opportunities.


Basic Information

  • Type: Specialist — Permanent
  • Employment: Full time
  • Location: Flexible; must be able to report to the nearest terminal. Cincinnati, OH / Columbus, OH / Dayton, OH / Wilmington, OH preferred. (Authoritative job location: Wilmington, OH)
  • Travel: Willingness to travel as needed (approx. 5–10%)
  • Reports to: EP&E Senior Engineer(s)
  • Estimated pay: $105,093 per year (estimated)

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a resource for operational problem identification, resolution, and continuous improvement to support organic growth opportunities
  • Analyze optimization and modeling needs and determine required data to develop project solutions
  • Perform cost–benefit analyses to ensure effective use of resources and maximize return on investment
  • Develop and implement solutions to operational issues and provide actionable recommendations
  • Resolve stakeholder conflicts and clarify communications to maintain alignment with corporate objectives
  • Support Business Review and Planning meetings by presenting analytical findings and tracking implementation results
  • Build analytical models, reporting tools, and automation solutions to improve engineering efficiency and decision-making

Qualifications

Required / Core capabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Research, Computer Science or related field preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote)
  • Ability to independently conduct standard analyses, process updates, and/or workflow changes and interpret results to recommend solutions
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and ability to communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, project-driven environment and communicating risk to project leadership

Preferred / Nice to have

  • Exposure to Python, R, SQL, VBA, or similar tools for data analysis, automation, optimization, or reporting
  • Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases (SQL Server preferred)
  • Familiarity with network optimization, capacity planning, or transportation/logistics modeling
  • Prior experience building models, dashboards, or automation to support operational decision-making
