Engineering Testing Technician
The Engineering Testing Technician performs field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials including soils, concrete, asphalt, and steel. What You’ll Do
This is an entry-level to early-career, hands-on Construction Materials / Engineering Testing role based in Lenexa, KS. You will perform field and laboratory testing, inspection, and documentation for construction materials (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel) to support projects and ensure compliance with specifications and safety standards.
- Perform field testing and inspection of construction materials at project sites (approximately 75% field, 25% office/lab).
- Conduct basic laboratory testing for aggregates, concrete, and asphalt as required.
- Operate common field equipment such as nuclear density gauges (NUKE GAUGE) and other compaction and sampling tools.
- Collect, label, and transport material samples to the laboratory with proper chain-of-custody documentation.
- Record, tabulate, and deliver daily reports — both written and digital — to the Project Manager.
- Maintain, clean, and inventory equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians when required and follow all site safety procedures.
Who You Are (Qualifications & Skills)
- High school diploma required.
- 0–2+ years experience in concrete, soil, and/or asphalt testing preferred.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather conditions; able to lift and carry test equipment and samples.
- Familiarity with materials testing methods (aggregate, concrete compression, asphalt) and sampling procedures.
- Experience or ability to learn to use nuclear density gauges and related field tools.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (company truck provided for field travel).
- Associates degree in construction, engineering, geology, or related field preferred; Bachelor of Engineering (Civil/Environmental) or EIT is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour (Contract-to-Hire).

Work Environment & Schedule
- This is an on-site position based in Lenexa, KS. Expect approximately 75% fieldwork at project sites and 25% office or lab time.
- Work typically requires wearing boots and durable clothing; company-provided attire may be required.
- You will work in small teams (1–3 people) and must be able to follow directions while maintaining a productive, safety-first mindset.
