What You’ll Do

Support continuous evaluation and development of engines, burners, aftertreatment systems, and related instrumentation to advance emissions reduction, fuel economy, and durability performance. Translate engineering requirements into build and installation specifications, verify implementation by technical staff, and safeguard data quality through calibration and documentation best practices. Act as a technical liaison between engineering and lab technicians to keep test systems reliable and ready for complex test programs.

Responsibilities

• Optimize and maintain engine and burner test cells used for aftertreatment and emissions evaluation
• Translate engineering designs into build/installation instructions and verify work against those specs
• Establish, refine, and document test procedures to ensure repeatable, precise measurements
• Oversee and review calibration procedures for lab instrumentation (temperature, pressure, flow, speed, concentration, emissions)
• Troubleshoot test software parameters, escalate non-standard issues, and help develop troubleshooting guides
• Identify recurring reliability issues, propose maintenance or modification plans, and support implementation
• Work with engineering to design, improve, and document test fixtures and facility systems
• Provide hands-on support for equipment assembly, disassembly, and integration performed by technical staff
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing downtime and improving measurement accuracy

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automotive Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related Technology degree — OR — 25+ years of related work experience with a high school diploma/equivalent and ongoing professional training/certifications
• 0–10 years of hands-on experience is acceptable (field/lab work, SAE/academic clubs, internships, personal projects) for early-career applicants
• Familiarity with engines, complex mechanical systems, automotive tools, and test cell equipment
• Experience or demonstrated familiarity with calibration methods and lab instrumentation
• Practical problem-solving skills; familiarity with basic project management and systems design concepts
• Valid, clear driver’s license required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to document procedures clearly

Preferred / Helpful Skills

• Prior experience with aftertreatment systems or emissions testing
• Experience optimizing test cells and building support systems
• Comfort interfacing with test software and data acquisition platforms
• Hands-on mechanical assembly experience and ability to oversee technical staff work

• Estimated salary: $138,841 per year (estimated)
