What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Engineering Assistant to support residential energy efficiency projects. You will work on-site at new construction projects across the Northern Massachusetts / Southern New Hampshire region, performing inspections, diagnostic testing, and data collection to support HERS ratings and energy-efficiency programs.

  • Interact professionally with builders, subcontractors, architects, and homeowners on project sites
  • Perform on-site inspections and visual verification of energy-efficiency features for new homes (single- and multi-family)
  • Collect field data and maintain accurate documentation and photos from inspections
  • Learn to calculate inputs needed to complete home energy ratings (conditioned floor area, volume, etc.)
  • Conduct mid-construction and final inspections to verify mechanical equipment, insulation, air-sealing, and building envelope details
  • Perform diagnostic testing (blower door and duct leakage testing) and document results
  • Provide in-field technical guidance to builders and subcontractors to improve energy performance, health, and durability of homes
  • Track and maintain flow of field data to project leads and internal team members
  • Collaborate with the project lead on status, scheduling, and follow-up actions

Qualifications

  • Technical or associate’s degree + ~2 years relevant experience, OR bachelor’s degree in a related field (entry-level candidates encouraged)
  • Experience or familiarity with new residential construction and basic building science
  • Desire and ability to learn energy-efficient construction techniques and diagnostic testing
  • Must be able to obtain RESNET HERS (Home Energy Rater) or Rater Field Inspector (RFI) certification
  • Experience with residential HVAC (sizing, installation, troubleshooting, or duct design) is a plus
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and comfortable using iOS mobile devices in the field
  • Ability to learn field equipment and testing technologies (blower door, duct testers, data-logging tools)
  • Strong communication skills for working with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Physical requirements: ability to climb ladders (up to ~15 feet), lift and carry measurement equipment (~20–35 lbs), enter attics, basements, and crawlspaces, and walk in and around construction sites
  • Flexibility to work extra hours when necessary to meet project requirements
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to project sites; travel to local project sites will vary from 50% to 100%

  • Estimated salary (from source posting): $44,750 per year — estimated
