What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking an Engineering Assistant (Level 1 or 2) to support on-site construction project administration across the coastal region. This is a hands‑on role focused on ensuring projects are built to plans, specifications, applicable codes, and budget.

  • Engineering Assistant 1 — Perform on-site construction management and inspection duties to ensure contract compliance with plans, specifications, and codes. Assist with field documentation, quantity computations, and progress pay estimates.
  • Engineering Assistant 2 — Serve as assistant project engineer on medium-to-large, complex projects and as on-site project engineer on smaller or simpler projects. Provide technical oversight, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with contractors to resolve field issues.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site inspections to verify work meets plans, specifications, and safety/environmental requirements
  • Prepare and review field documentation, engineering reports, and construction records
  • Compute quantities for payment and reporting purposes; assist in preparing progress pay estimates
  • Coordinate with project engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve construction issues promptly
  • Apply engineering principles to develop practical solutions in the field and adapt plans as needed within scope
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate status updates to supervisors and project teams

Minimum Qualifications

Engineering Assistant 1 (EA1)

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering, architecture, or land surveying from a postsecondary institution accredited by ABET; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in the same fields from a non‑ABET institution AND EIT/LSIT certification or verification of passing the FE/FS exam. Candidates completing an ABET‑accredited degree within nine months may be conditionally appointed.

Engineering Assistant 2 (EA2)

  • Bachelor’s degree (ABET accredited) in engineering, architecture, or land surveying AND one year of entry‑level engineering experience (e.g., Engineering Assistant 1) with the State or equivalent; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree (non‑ABET) plus EIT/LSIT or FE/FS verification AND one year of EA1‑level experience; OR
  • Five years of progressively responsible subprofessional engineering experience (with two years at Journey/Technician 3 level) or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license (required for both levels).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with construction inspection, field documentation, and quantity computations
  • Familiarity with transportation infrastructure projects (roads, bridges, ferry terminals, airports) particularly in coastal or remote environments
  • Strong written and oral communication, good judgment, and the ability to work independently in the field
  • EIT (Engineer‑in‑Training) or LSIT preferred where applicable
