Role Overview

Confidential Client is a national provider of testing, inspection, and certification services supporting new product development, quality assurance, project delivery, and engineered asset-management solutions. The firm serves national and international clients from multiple offices, and invests in laboratory facilities, technology, and people.

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join a civil engineering team in Houston, TX. This entry-level position is ideal for recent civil engineering graduates preparing for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. The EIT will assist project engineers and senior staff with the planning, design, and execution of infrastructure and development projects.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist in the design and analysis of civil engineering projects (site development, drainage, roadways, and utilities)
  • Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports
  • Support the creation of construction documents using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D)
  • Conduct site visits to observe construction progress and collect field data
  • Assist with project permitting, regulatory compliance, and coordination with local agencies
  • Perform quantity takeoffs, prepare basic cost estimates, and support project analysis
  • Collaborate with surveyors, planners, environmental specialists, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Maintain organized project documentation and ensure accuracy of project data

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
  • 6 months to 1 year of geotechnical-related experience preferred (entry-level acceptable)
  • Actively preparing for or scheduled to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
  • Solid understanding of civil engineering fundamentals (structural, transportation, or water-resources basics)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software preferred
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in team settings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or co-op experience in civil engineering
  • Familiarity with design standards such as AASHTO, TxDOT, or local municipal guidelines
  • Exposure to hydrology/hydraulics software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS)
