What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking an Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) — an entry-level civil engineer (0–3 years) — to support planning, analysis, design, and construction of municipal infrastructure projects. This role provides hands-on experience across water, wastewater, stormwater/drainage, roadway, and related civil infrastructure work under the supervision of licensed Professional Engineers.
- Assist with civil engineering design and analysis for water, wastewater, stormwater, drainage, roadway, and related infrastructure projects
- Perform engineering calculations under the direction of a licensed Professional Engineer
- Help prepare construction plans, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates
- Develop and revise engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design tools
- Assist with hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and modeling, as applicable
- Review survey data, record drawings, utility information, GIS data, and other existing project information
- Support permit application preparation and regulatory documentation
- Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction observations
- Assist with quantity take-offs and opinions of probable construction cost
- Support responses to contractor RFIs and submittal reviews during construction
- Perform research on engineering standards, design criteria, codes, and regulations
- Prepare technical exhibits, spreadsheets, calculations, and supporting project documentation
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, surveyors, and other project team members
- Maintain organized project files and meet project schedules and budgets
What We’re Looking For
Candidates should demonstrate foundational civil engineering knowledge, eagerness to learn, and strong teamwork skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline from an accredited program
- Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification, or ability to obtain within an agreed timeframe
- 0–3 years of civil engineering experience — entry-level candidates and recent graduates encouraged to apply
- Basic understanding of civil engineering principles and municipal infrastructure design
- Experience with or exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred
- Coursework or exposure to water resources, hydraulics, hydrology, environmental engineering, transportation, or municipal infrastructure preferred
- Familiarity with GIS and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple assignments, and a willingness to learn
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed
Professional Development
Confidential Client supports professional growth and progression toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. You will receive mentorship from licensed PEs, exposure to multiple project phases, and opportunities to take on progressively more complex technical responsibilities.
Location & Travel
This position is based in Baton Rouge, LA. Travel to project sites and occasional fieldwork/observations are required. A valid driver’s license is necessary.
Compensation (Estimated)
- Estimated annual salary: $95,813 (Adzuna estimate). Actual pay and benefits will be determined by Confidential Client and may vary based on experience and qualifications.
