What You’ll Do

This entry-level engineering role supports the client’s transportation group and provides hands-on experience in traffic engineering, safety, operations, and mobility projects. You will work closely with licensed engineers and project managers to analyze data, develop technical recommendations, and help produce deliverables for public-sector clients.

  • Support transportation engineers and project managers with traffic engineering analyses, calculations, exhibits, reports, and project documentation under supervision.
  • Participate in project meetings and coordinate assigned tasks, schedules, and follow-up items with the project team.
  • Summarize data, methods, findings, and recommendations in technical memoranda, reports, and presentations.
  • Coordinate findings with roadway design and other disciplines to support conceptual improvements.
  • Assist with crash-data reviews and safety analyses; apply guidance from the Highway Safety Manual and crash modification factors where relevant.
  • Conduct field reviews and document existing conditions at intersections, interchanges, freeways, and arterial corridors.
  • Assist with traffic operations analyses (tools such as Synchro, VISSIM, Highway Capacity Software) under senior staff guidance.
  • Help prepare traffic and safety reports, feasibility studies, and preliminary engineering documentation; become familiar with applicable agency standards and requirements.
  • Support transportation planning and project development assignments, including data collection and alternatives evaluation.
  • Participate in training, mentoring, and professional-development activities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a related engineering field from an accredited four-year institution.
  • 0–4 years of relevant engineering experience; transportation project or internship experience is a plus.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or intent to obtain within six months (consistent with the Engineer I profile).
  • Familiarity with transportation analysis or design software such as Synchro, VISSIM, Highway Capacity Software, OpenRoads, MicroStation, or AutoCAD is a plus; ability to learn project-specific tools is required.
  • Working knowledge of AASHTO guidance, the MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, and Highway Safety Manual is helpful.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel to other offices or project locations as required.
