Role Overview

Confidential Client (Engineering) is hiring an entry-level Engineer I / Design Engineer to join their engineering team in San Diego, CA. This onsite, full-time position focuses on 3D CAD modeling, detailed drawings, prototype support, and design validation for mechanical and opto-mechanical systems. U.S. citizenship is required; the role may require the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.


What You’ll Do

  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and layouts in accordance with design and drafting standards using Creo and SolidWorks.
  • Support integration, assembly, and testing of mechanical and opto-mechanical components and structures.
  • Investigate design factors such as thermal response, vibration, material selection, and manufacturability under direction.
  • Validate designs for conformance to engineering requirements, standards, and specifications; identify issues and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare technical documentation including parts lists, design notes, and test support materials.
  • Participate in design reviews, present findings, and support trade studies as assigned.
  • Assist in prototype fabrication and testing support.
  • Help maintain configuration control and engineering release documentation.
  • Observe all laws, regulations, and company safety procedures.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited institution — or equivalent engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as Creo and SolidWorks; knowledge of CATIA or IDEAS is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, tolerancing, and GD&T.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivated, customer-focused, and willing to learn in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Ability/willingness to work extended hours and travel as required (0–25%).
  • U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain/maintain DoD security clearance may be required.
