Position summary

Under direct supervision, performs assignments designed to develop engineering work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard techniques, practices and procedures. This entry-level engineering role involves office and field work supporting power/utility engineering projects and operations.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide entry-level engineering support for small or repetitive projects.
  • Conduct small studies or contribute to larger studies focused on performance, cost and schedule.
  • Support operational teams with basic engineering analyses and documentation.
  • Communicate engineering recommendations, findings and evaluations to internal stakeholders.
  • Represent the Confidential Client on fundamental technical matters as assigned.
  • Follow company and industry standards to ensure safety and consistent engineering results.
  • Provide occasional technical direction or supervision to contractors or less-experienced personnel.

Competencies & Skills

  • Knowledge of basic engineering principles and established practices in the applicable discipline.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply national, state and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation and demonstrated leadership potential.
  • Ability to translate electrical theory to utility applications to help improve system reliability.
  • Comfort and confidence working around high-voltage electrical facilities and equipment (up to 345 kV where applicable).

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • 1–3 years of related engineering experience (entry-level welcome).
  • Valid, legally-authorized driver’s license and ability to meet driving record requirements.

Preferred technical tools

  • Proficiency with electrical engineering design tools such as AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of standard office software: operating systems, word processing, databases and spreadsheets.

Communication & problem solving

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
  • Skills to write routine reports, presentations and correspondence.
  • Comfortable speaking effectively to groups of customers, employees and managers.
  • Able to follow complex written, oral or diagrammed instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables.

Physical demands & work environment

  • Combination of office and field work; majority of time spent in the office with regular visits to field sites.
  • Periodic lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, bending, crouching, climbing and working at heights.
  • Work around high-voltage electricity, construction equipment and standard office hardware.
  • Required personal protective equipment may include hard hat, safety glasses and hearing protection.
