Engineer I-III (New Service Delivery)

What You’ll Do
Under supervision (level varies by title: Engineer I, II, or III), plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate engineering work for projects in distribution engineering and new service delivery. Work spans office and field environments and includes technical analyses, design support, and coordination with internal teams and contractors.
- Manage engineering aspects of projects (small to moderate scope or detailed phases of larger projects)
- Lead or support performance, cost, and scheduling studies
- Support operations using standard and non-standard engineering techniques and practices
- Communicate technical recommendations clearly to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders
- Provide technical direction and supervision to contractors and other personnel as required
- Apply engineering expertise to update or develop standards and improve system reliability
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate engineering tasks for new service delivery and distribution projects
- Conduct studies to evaluate alternatives for performance, cost, and schedule
- Translate electrical theory to practical utility applications (including work around high-voltage systems up to 345kV)
- Read, interpret, and apply national, state, and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.)
- Forecast budgets and support cost analyses
- Prepare routine technical reports, presentations, and documentation
- Provide occasional or regular jobsite direction and oversight to contractors and field staff
Minimum Qualifications
(Requirements vary by level — see notes for Engineer I / II / III)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Engineer I: Bachelor’s + 1–3 years related experience
- Engineer II: Bachelor’s + 2+ years engineering experience (or 1+ with FE certificate or Master’s)
- Engineer III: Bachelor’s + 4+ years engineering experience (or 3+ with FE certificate or Master’s)
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet company driving record requirements
- Ability to work safely around high-voltage electrical facilities and construction environments
Preferred / Helpful Certifications
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate preferred
- Additional industry or utility certifications a plus
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical knowledge in distribution engineering and utility system planning
- Proficiency with electrical engineering design programs (e.g., AutoCAD) and standard office software (Word, Excel, database tools)
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to work with complex variables
- Leadership, self-motivation, and interpersonal skills; able to present effectively to varied audiences
- Familiarity with NERC CIP cyber security requirements is beneficial
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Combination of office and field work; majority of time typically in the office
- Exposure to outdoor elements and construction sites; work around high-voltage equipment (up to 345kV)
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), crouching, bending, climbing, and working at heights
- Personal protective equipment required on site: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection

- Personnel in these roles may be subject to NERC CIP cyber security standards; if applicable, candidates must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, identity verification, and criminal background check prior to hire, promotion, or transfer
- Depending on the role and location, a credit check may be required due to the financial nature of certain assignments
- Annual cyber security training may be required when position is covered by CIP standards
