Role overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Engineer I to join a Mechanical Engineering team supporting spacecraft, payloads, and advanced electromagnetic/optical systems. This entry-level, onsite engineering role is based in Englewood, CO and focuses on structural and dynamic analysis, mechanical design support, and lab/test correlation for space and launch environments.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop engineering solutions, detailed designs, and analytical approaches for spacecraft and payload hardware.
- Perform structural and dynamic analyses (modal, random vibration, shock, stress) on components, spacecraft, and launch systems.
- Correlate analytical results with test data and support lab-based materials characterization, vibration, and failure analysis.
- Contribute to mechanical design, fabrication oversight, prototype builds, and test execution while integrating lessons learned into design improvements.
- Apply statistical and mathematical methods to assess structural strength, fatigue, and dynamic performance against design criteria.
- Define technical objectives, propose practical solutions to complex problems, and document technical findings for technical reviews and customers.
- Interface across teams, present results, and represent the organization as a technical contributor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, aerospace, or related) from an accredited institution, or equivalent engineering experience.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience (entry-level), with demonstrated coursework or hands-on exposure to structural analysis and mechanical design.
- Experience or coursework in modal analysis, random vibration, shock, stress analysis, and correlation of analysis to test data.
- Proficiency with CAD and FEA tools such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, NASTRAN, and/or FEMAP.
- Familiarity with MATLAB or similar analysis scripting tools.
- Strong written/verbal communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
- U.S. Citizenship required; eligible to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance (Secret or higher). Active TS-SCI is highly desirable.
Preferred / Nice-to-have
- Experience with aluminum honeycomb panels and composite structural concepts.
- Mechanical design experience for flight or ruggedized hardware.
- Exposure to optical systems, flight systems, or military/space environments.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, published technical works, or conference presentations.
- Prior clearance or demonstrated ability to work on classified programs.
