Overview
Confidential Client is hiring an Engineer Diver / Associate Marine Engineer to join their Marine & Coastal engineering practice based in Florham Park, NJ, with frequent field work in the NYC metropolitan area. This early-career role (0–5 years experience) supports marine asset management, waterfront inspections (above- and underwater), inspection reporting, rehabilitation design, and dive operations. Strong written/verbal communication, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors and offshore are required.
What You’ll Do
- Perform above-water and underwater inspections of marine/coastal infrastructure (piers, wharves, bulkheads, seawalls, revetments).
- Collect field data using measurements, sketches, non-destructive testing, point clouds, and other survey technologies.
- Prepare clear, client-ready inspection reports and recommendations that leverage emerging tools to increase efficiency.
- Support development of rehabilitation and new-construction design documents and design calculations (load ratings, service-life analysis, detail design).
- Assist with dive operations: dive safety planning, equipment maintenance, inspection recordkeeping, and safety training.
- Support mobilization/demobilization of dive and survey equipment, small-boat operations, and on-site oversight.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies during field work.
Required Qualifications
- 0–5 years of relevant professional experience in marine/coastal inspection, design, or related engineering work.
- ADCI Entry Level Tender/Diver Certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, structural, ocean, coastal, or related) from an ABET-accredited program.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification (or Engineer Intern) preferred.
- Current commercial dive physical per ADCI Consensus Standards.
- Current safety certifications:
- OSHA 10
- First Aid, CPR, AED
- O2 Provider
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC), or ability to obtain before employment.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel, work outdoors in variable weather, tidal, and current conditions, and support occasional overnight or non-standard hours.
- Strong quantitative/math and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication; strong attention to detail.
- Ability to pass pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- ADCI Air Diver certification.
- Master’s degree in engineering (civil, structural, ocean, coastal, or related) from an ABET-accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in New York and/or New Jersey.
- Documented experience performing waterfront inspections per ASCE MOP 130, NYCEDC Waterfront Inspection Manual, and/or PANYNJ.
- Experience with underwater non-destructive testing equipment.
- Point cloud modeling and/or hydrographic survey experience.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, or GIS (ArcGIS Pro).
- Structural analysis software experience (RISA, SAP2000, STAAD, or similar).
- Asset management experience, including developing/managing asset databases.
- Additional safety training: OSHA 30, HAZWOPER 40-hour.
- Boat-operator certification and/or U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Boating Skills & Seamanship (BS&S).
Compensation & Location
- Location: Florham Park, NJ (frequent field work in NYC metro).
- Estimated pay (source): $59,959 per year (estimated). Actual pay may vary based on experience, certifications, and site assignments.
- Employment type: Full-time (field and office mix).
Physical Requirements
This role requires commercial diving and tender duties in industrial marine environments. Tasks include loading/unloading diving equipment, donning/doffing diving gear, entering/exiting the water (including via ladders), acting as standby diver, and operating in low-temperature, low-visibility, and strong-current conditions.
