The Engineer, Design Mechanical leads and oversees all engineering aspects of major capital projects for natural gas facilities, including design, development, and execution. What You’ll Do
- Lead and oversee all mechanical engineering aspects of major capital projects for natural gas facilities, including pipeline, measurement, regulation, compression, storage, and related equipment.
- Coordinate internal and third-party resources (Drafting, Land, Environmental, Contracts, Procurement, third‑party engineering, fabrication inspection) to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Produce mechanical engineering deliverables: scopes and estimates, design forms, construction workspace drawings, easement exhibits, site layouts, mechanical construction drawings, and fabrication drawings.
- Size, specify, and order mechanical equipment and materials.
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and problem-solving for operating issues across transmission and storage systems.
- Review, develop, and implement company design standards and specifications.
- Research and analyze technical data, vendor manuals, and industry standards to determine design feasibility.
- Participate in company and industry studies to improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Serve as a company representative at community events and volunteer opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Entry-level experience in design engineering or a related field.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability as required by company policy.
- Ability to work in both an open office environment and outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and apply directions, policies, procedures, specifications, standards, and applicable Federal/State/Local regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Highly organized, analytical, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to produce results under tight deadlines.
- Strong focus on safe work practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- ~5 years’ experience applying engineering principles to the design, construction, or operations of natural gas facilities.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate or Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Advanced degree in engineering or related field.
- Project lead or construction experience.
- Experience with financial reporting or project execution software.
- Experience with material components of natural gas pipeline systems.
- Knowledge of CFR DOT 192, ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, API 5L, ANSI B16.5, MSS SP‑75, AGA reports, and similar industry standards.
- Demonstrated ability to provide direction to others.
