Position overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Engineer Assc in New Albany, OH to support Real‑Time Reliability Engineering programs. This role contributes technical analyses, restoration planning (including Blackstart), short‑circuit and stability studies, and operational support to help ensure safe, reliable, and compliant bulk electric system operations across RTO/ISO regions.
What You'll Do
- Analyze system performance to identify reliability risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Perform engineering studies supporting bulk electric system reliability: short‑circuit analysis, contingency analysis, voltage and thermal assessments, and System Operating Limit evaluations.
- Develop, maintain, and execute System Restoration and Blackstart studies and plans; ensure restoration procedures are accurate and operationally effective.
- Provide technical guidance and engineering support to System Control Center (SCC) and Transmission Dispatch Centers (TDC) during normal, emergency, and restoration events.
- Produce and maintain operating criteria, engineering procedures, technical guidelines, decision‑support tools, and study documentation.
- Support NERC compliance activities and reliability standards (EOP, TOP, FAC, PRC, PER, etc.).
- Coordinate with Planning, Protection & Control, Asset Management, Generation, and Operations on system modifications and reliability impacts.
- Lead restoration drills, operator training, and tabletop exercises to improve restoration readiness.
- Represent the organization in industry working groups and reliability forums (NERC, IEEE, EPRI, PJM, SPP, ERCOT, MISO) as needed.
- Act as the engineering owner for assigned reliability programs and own associated deliverables and stakeholder communication.
Qualifications
Entry level (Engineer Assoc - Pay Grade 6)
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or acceptable alternative per client policy).
- Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is encouraged and preferred.
- Candidates with Engineering Technology degrees may qualify if they obtain PE licensure as required by the client.
Experienced (Engineer Sr - Grade 8)
- Typically 4+ years of relevant engineering experience with a Bachelor’s in engineering (ABET), or 2 years with a Master’s, or PhD in engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
- Alternate degree paths accepted per internal policies (see Confidential Client for details).
Preferred Knowledge & Tools
- Power system analysis and modeling.
- Bulk Electric System operations and restoration planning (Blackstart).
- Short circuit, protection coordination, and power system stability analysis.
- Transmission planning, SOL/IROL assessments, and NERC reliability standards.
- Familiarity with SCADA, EMS, State Estimator, and operational tools.
- Experience with power system software such as ASPEN, PSSE, PSLF, TARA, CAPE, or PowerWorld.
- Strong technical writing, procedure development, and cross‑functional coordination skills.
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation Grade: SP20-006
- Compensation Range: $74,551 - $128,688 per year (range provided by the client)
- Estimated midpoint displayed on source: ~$116,778 per year

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily sedentary work (Physical Demand Level: S). Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds and brief standing/walking may be required.
