Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a part-time Employment Specialist — SLP to provide 1:1 job coaching and employment supports for an individual working competitively at multiple worksites in New Haven and Waterbury, CT. This role is part of a Supported Living Program and reports to the SLP Program Manager.

Pay Rate: $23.15 Hourly
Schedule: 20 hrs/wk — Mondays 9:00am–2:00pm; Tuesdays 8:30am–2:00pm; Thursdays 9:00am–2:00pm; Fridays 10:30am–3:00pm
Location: New Haven, CT (work across assigned worksites)


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, on-the-job job coaching, training, and stabilization support to help the individual meet personal and vocational goals.
  • Teach and model job tasks, routines, soft skills, and workplace behavior to support job performance and retention.
  • Maintain effective communication with employers, the individual served, family members, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with transportation planning and travel training; provide transportation when public transit is not available.
  • Advocate with employers and coworkers about accommodations, strengths, and support needs as appropriate.
  • Support employment site development efforts and employer relationships to promote workplace integration.
  • Complete timely documentation: progress reports, Setworks entries, billing, and any state-required records.
  • Attend and actively participate in planning meetings and trainings.
  • Support training and mentoring of other Job Coaches as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, ABA, Human Services, or a related field, and/or
  • Minimum of 2 years of related job coaching or industry experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the needs and employment barriers/challenges for adults with developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Strong communication and writing skills; demonstrated teaching ability and empathy.
  • Ability to balance employer expectations with the individual’s support needs.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and an independent problem-solver.
  • Proficient with computers and common applications (Word, Excel, web-based systems, databases).
  • High level of integrity and commitment to person-centered values.
  • Willingness to learn and receive feedback.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable insured personal vehicle, and acceptable driving record — daily vehicle use required; parking fees reimbursed on the same day.

Preferred

  • ACRE endorsement in Customized Employment or familiarity with customized employment, APSE, and Employment First principles.
  • Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) credential.
  • Public Service License (PSL) or eligibility to obtain one.
