What You’ll Do

Confidential client’s IST (Integrated System Test) Software team is seeking motivated Embedded Software Engineers to develop software for advanced test platforms. This contract role (~1 year) covers the full embedded stack — from low-level hardware interaction and Linux platform development to application software and system integration.

  • Design, implement, and maintain embedded software in C and C++ for Linux-based and bare-metal systems
  • Debug and optimize hardware/software integration issues across board- and system-level components
  • Build robust APIs and services for higher-level applications used in test and instrumentation systems
  • Collaborate closely with hardware engineers, software engineers, and product managers to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions
  • Apply modern software engineering practices (code review, automated testing, CI/CD) to improve software quality and engineering efficiency

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded and system-level software
  • Practical experience with Linux platform development and troubleshooting
  • Experience debugging complex hardware/software integration and multithreaded applications
  • Familiarity with embedded communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, PCIe, or similar)
  • Effective written and verbal communication — able to present technical issues, status, and risks to peers and stakeholders
  • Experience using Agile development practices: story planning, bug tracking, release planning, and sprint retrospectives
  • Must be available to work from the Sunnyvale, CA or North Reading, MA offices five days per week as required by the confidential client

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with scripting (Python) for automation, testing, and tooling
  • Background in test, instrumentation, or semiconductor test system development
  • Familiarity with hardware bring-up, board bring-up, or system integration work

Logistics & Employment Type

  • Contract position (nominal duration: 1 year)
  • Work location: Sunnyvale, CA (primary for this posting); candidate must be willing and able to work on-site as required. The confidential client may also consider placement at their North Reading, MA site for some roles.
  • Employment classification: CONTRACTOR (per the confidential client)
