What You’ll Do
This contract-to-hire Embedded Software Engineer will develop and maintain software for medical training simulators, working across a cross-platform mobile app and embedded firmware. You will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to deliver integrated simulation systems and support the product throughout the development lifecycle.
- Develop and enhance a cross-platform iOS and Android application using .NET MAUI, XAML, and C#.
- Design and implement intuitive UI features for mobile and desktop targets.
- Write and maintain embedded firmware in C for ESP32-based devices.
- Implement device communication (Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, USB, serial) between apps and embedded hardware.
- Debug and troubleshoot issues spanning application, firmware, and system integration layers.
- Apply object-oriented design and software engineering best practices to produce maintainable, testable code.
- Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews.
- Create unit tests and support system-level testing, validation, and verification.
- Maintain clear technical requirements, test records, and version control (GitHub).
- Support deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of simulation software and hardware integrations.
Must-Have (Essential) Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficient in C and C#.
- Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET MAUI (or equivalent .NET mobile development).
- Familiarity with embedded systems programming concepts and firmware development.
- Experience or comfort debugging both application-layer and embedded firmware issues.
- Experience with Git or similar version control systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work on a small cross-functional engineering team.
- Interest in medical simulation technology and systems integration.
Nice-to-Have (Preferred) Skills
- Hands-on experience with ESP32 microcontrollers.
- Prior mobile app development for iOS and Android.
- Experience integrating Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, USB, or serial protocols.
- Background in electrical engineering or embedded systems integration.
- Previous exposure to medical devices, simulation platforms, or regulated environments.
Work Arrangement & Team
- Location: Fully onsite in Saugerties, NY (Mount Marion area).
- Team size: Engineering group of ~15–20 people, collaborative, hands-on environment.
- Schedule: Structured daytime shifts with typical start times around 7:00–8:00 AM.
- Duration: Long-term contract-to-hire with intention to convert to permanent when headcount allows.
- This role requires on-site presence and close collaboration with hardware teams.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $26.45 - $31.25 per hour.
