What You’ll Do

This Contract Embedded Software Engineer will design, develop, test, and support embedded software and system-level features for our confidential client. You’ll work on low-level firmware and system integration, collaborate with hardware engineers, and help deliver reliable embedded solutions across product lifecycles.

  • Participate in system requirements review, feature design, and specification authoring
  • Develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware in C/C++
  • Integrate and test datalinks such as CAN and Ethernet and support communications subsystems
  • Use git, debuggers, and compilers to implement and validate code; build and run unit tests (C test / G test)
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software interactions using schematics, data sheets, and lab tools
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of development practices and documentation
  • Communicate technical status and tradeoffs clearly across engineering and product teams

What We’re Looking For

Minimum requirements — candidates who match these should be able to start contributing quickly.

  • Associate-level experience in embedded software development (Contract)
  • Solid programming experience in C or C++ for embedded systems
  • Working knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: requirements → development → testing → delivery
  • Familiarity reading schematics and component datasheets
  • Strong verbal and written communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot system issues and implement fixes as needed

Technical Skills (Required)

  • git, debuggers, and compilers
  • C test and G test suites (unit testing frameworks)
  • System-level feature design and specification
  • Datalinks (CAN, Ethernet, etc.)
  • Basic familiarity with embedded system tools (cross-compilers, JTAG/SWD, build systems)
  • Helpful: SQL or experience with related development tooling for system integration

Nice-to-Have / Differentiators

  • Experience designing features for product-level embedded systems
  • Prior exposure to industrial, aerospace, or communications embedded applications
  • Strong software design analysis and structured, test-driven development approach
  • Ability to express technical tradeoffs and positions respectfully and constructively
