Embedded Software Engineer

What You’ll Do
You will design, implement, test, and maintain embedded flight software used for sensors and spacecraft payloads. Working with cross-functional hardware and systems teams, you will deliver highly reliable, efficient code that runs on constrained embedded platforms.
- Develop flight and payload software in C++ and C; use Python for tooling and scripting.
- Integrate and debug software on Linux-based embedded targets and AMD64 on-board computers.
- Implement containerized development environments and CI/CD pipelines to support repeatable builds and automated testing.
- Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers for software/hardware integration, telemetry, and fault handling.
- Write efficient, memory- and CPU-conscious code for smaller, lighter compute platforms.
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and mission readiness activities focused on high-reliability aerospace systems.
What We’re Looking For
Candidates should bring hands-on embedded software experience, strong systems thinking, and a disciplined approach to testing and CI/CD.
- Proven experience with embedded software development using C and C++.
- Practical Python scripting experience for build, test automation, and deployment.
- Experience with Linux-based embedded systems and debugging on target hardware.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and containerized workflows (e.g., Docker, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
- Strong debugging skills and the ability to diagnose low-level issues on embedded platforms.
- Ability to produce reliable code within constraints of smaller, lower-power processors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Nice to Have / Preferred
- Prior experience in aerospace, satellite, or flight software development.
- Experience with AMD64 OBCs and microcontroller platforms.
- Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and deterministic scheduling.
- Familiarity with telemetry/telecommand and payload integration workflows.
Work Environment & Logistics
This is a contract position based in Louisville, CO. The role is hybrid — on-site collaboration is required as part of the team’s development and integration activities. The Confidential Client operates within the Business Consulting and Services industry and supports mission-driven aerospace engineering work.

Compensation & Benefits
Per Colorado pay-transparency rules, the hourly pay range for this role is:
- $60.00 - $90.00 per hour (USD)
