Embedded Software Engineer
The Embedded Software Engineer will develop safety-critical embedded firmware in C/C++ and Rust to control electromechanical systems and process sensor data for advancing clean nuclear energy. This role involves designing control architectures, collaborating with hardware engineers for system integration, and building automated testing infrastructure to ensure safe and deterministic system behavior under various conditions.

What You’ll Do
- Develop embedded firmware in C/C++ and Rust to control electromechanical actuators and process high‑speed sensor data.
- Design state machines, control architectures, and fault‑tolerant control logic for safety‑critical systems.
- Partner closely with hardware and electrical engineers on system bring‑up, integration, and troubleshooting.
- Build automated build, test, and validation infrastructure (CI, unit/hardware‑in‑the‑loop tests).
- Validate deterministic and safe behavior under normal and fault conditions.
- Debug systems using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab instrumentation.
- Support system testing, commissioning, and ongoing improvements to production equipment.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 5+ years of professional experience developing embedded or low‑level systems.
- Hands‑on programming experience in C and/or C++; familiarity with Rust, Go, or Python is a plus.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to make sound technical decisions with incomplete information.
- Experience with low‑level hardware interfaces, real‑time constraints, and deterministic system design.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and comfort working with lab tools and data acquisition systems.
Bonus (Nice to have)
- Experience with data acquisition systems and digital signal processing (DSP).
- Experience with PCBA bring‑up and electrical hardware troubleshooting.
- Experience debugging low‑level communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, etc.).
- Prior experience working in fast‑paced engineering teams or startups focused on industrial systems.
