Role overview
This entry-level Embedded Software Engineer role is an on-site, full-time position based in Bloomington, MN working for a confidential client supporting airborne systems and defense software. You will join a cross-functional team developing embedded flight/combat systems, crypto products, and weapon control software. The position requires a current Department of Defense Secret (or higher) security clearance (preferred at time of hire) and U.S. citizenship.
What You’ll Do
As an Embedded Software Engineer (Entry Level) you will:
- Contribute to embedded C/C++ software development for airborne computers and weapon/crypto systems
- Build, test, and debug software on Linux-based embedded platforms
- Work within Agile teams to deliver incremental functionality and participate in design/review sessions
- Integrate software with hardware, perform system-level testing, and diagnose runtime issues
- Write and maintain documentation, unit tests, and CI artifacts
- Identify opportunities to apply AI/automation for improved development or testing efficiency
- Collaborate with systems engineers, test engineers, and program stakeholders to meet requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related STEM field
- Practical experience with C or C++ (coursework, projects, internships, or early-career work)
- Familiarity with Linux development and common tooling (gcc, gdb, make/cmake)
- Eligible for Department of Defense security clearance and U.S. citizenship (required due to role)
- Strong collaboration skills and eagerness to learn in a team environment
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Hands-on experience with embedded systems, cross-compilation, or RTOS
- Prior exposure to avionics, avionics protocols, or safety-critical systems
- Software development leadership or project contributions (student projects, internships)
- Knowledge of agile development practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with modern C++ features and test-driven development
- Experience or interest in applying AI/ML to software engineering tasks
Clearance & Eligibility
- Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Candidates without clearance may be considered but must be eligible to obtain clearance.
- U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work and access to classified information.

- Target salary range: USD $77,843 — USD $86,358 per year (actual pay based on experience, role, and location)

Workplace & Schedule
