Position Overview

Confidential Client is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Integration Engineer (Embedded Software Engineer) to lead hardware/software integration and validation for vehicle body control systems. This is a 12+ month contract (contractor) opportunity with potential for hire. The role focuses on C/C++ firmware, Python tooling, vehicle networks (CAN/LIN), and functional safety (ISO 26262 / ASIL-D) in automotive environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive evolution of body control software architecture and define hardware/software interfaces.
  • Lead early-stage hardware and software integration and validate system performance to requirements.
  • Translate vehicle-level objectives into precise software specifications for body control systems.
  • Use field and telemetry data to iterate and optimize system performance.
  • Architect test and validation strategies with validation and cross-functional teams.
  • Diagnose complex HW/SW interactions and perform root cause analysis.
  • Assess impacts of design changes across electrical, software, manufacturing, and mechanical domains.
  • Perform DFMEA, HARA, and related functional safety activities for body control systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across cross-disciplinary teams throughout the product lifecycle.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in embedded software and systems engineering, with strong C/C++ skills.
  • Proficiency with Python for scripting, tooling, and data analysis.
  • Deep automotive experience (ECU/ECM architectures, vehicle networks such as CAN/LIN).
  • Hands-on experience with embedded interfaces: UART, SPI, I2C and embedded diagnostics.
  • Strong background in hardware/software integration, debugging, and system-level validation.
  • Familiarity with OTA release concepts and production software observability.
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards, including ISO 26262 and ASIL-D practices.
  • BS or higher in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with body control systems (doors, windows, lighting, mirrors, HVAC, actuators).
  • Prior work with vehicle software organizations and cross-functional integration teams.
  • Experience with electric vehicle systems and architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to design state machines and visually represent system behavior.
  • Experience with DFMEA, HARA, and fault tree analysis in automotive programs.

Interview Process & Logistics

  • Typical interview loop: 2 technical rounds followed by a final client interview.
  • Technical exercise includes designing/drawing a state machine from a provided scenario (candidates should be comfortable constructing state machine diagrams by hand or in tools).
  • Role type: CONTRACTOR (12+ month contract to hire).
  • Work location: California — onsite majority of the week (client expects multi-day onsite collaboration; specific on-site schedule to be confirmed with hiring manager).
  • Employment is contingent upon identity and work-authorization verification and any client-specific screening processes.
