Role overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer (entry-level) to join an on-site, full-time airborne systems team in Bloomington, MN. This role contributes to flight-critical systems that process mission data, identify friendly aircraft, and support weapon control and cockpit display software. The position requires U.S. citizenship and a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance (or higher) at hire or the ability to obtain one.
What you’ll do
- Develop, test, and maintain embedded software for airborne systems using C/C++.
- Work on Linux-based embedded targets and toolchains.
- Collaborate on cross-functional teams (software, hardware, systems engineering) to deliver mission-capable solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, telemetry/debugging, and continuous integration workflows.
- Apply agile practices and contribute to software design, documentation, and verification activities.
- Identify opportunities to apply AI/automation for software improvements and testing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Engineering, Science, Math, or related field (required).
- Practical experience or academic projects with embedded C/C++ development.
- Experience with Linux-based development or embedded Linux environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- U.S. citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
- Current DoD Secret clearance preferred at time of hire; candidates able to obtain/maintain clearance will also be considered.
Preferred skills & experience
- Familiarity with embedded toolchains, cross-compilation, and hardware bring-up.
- Experience with real-time or RTOS-based systems.
- Exposure to avionics or airborne systems (preferred but not required).
- Software development leadership or team project experience.
- Understanding of software engineering processes, agile methodology, and verification practices.
- Interest in applying AI or automation to software development and test.
