What You’ll Do
- Design, implement, and maintain embedded firmware for access-control products and related hardware platforms.
- Work closely with electrical engineers and product managers to integrate firmware with sensors, readers, secure elements, and communications modules.
- Implement device-level features: secure boot, device provisioning, firmware-over-the-air (FOTA), and access-control logic.
- Debug hardware/firmware issues using tools like JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, and serial consoles.
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests, and participate in code reviews to keep code quality high.
- Contribute to architecture and design decisions, prioritizing security, reliability, and low-power operation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ship product releases on schedule.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field — or equivalent experience (required).
- Proven experience developing embedded firmware (C/C++), preferably 2+ years.
- Familiarity with microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-M or similar), real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS or equivalent), and hardware interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO).
- Experience using embedded debugging tools (JTAG, SWD, serial consoles).
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience diagnosing hardware/firmware interactions.
- Clear communication and collaboration skills to work with hardware, product, and QA teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience with access control, IoT devices, or physical security systems.
- Experience implementing secure device provisioning, encryption, and secure firmware update flows.
- Familiarity with networking stacks (TCP/IP, TLS) or low-power wireless (BLE, LoRa).
- Experience with CI for embedded systems and automated firmware testing.

- Location: California (CA), United States — this role is based in California. Specific onsite/hybrid expectations will be determined by the Confidential Client.
