About the Role
Confidential Client is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer to develop, implement, debug, and test software for unmanned systems, subsystems, and test platforms used in defense applications. This role supports operations in Aberdeen, NC and works closely with cross-discipline teams to deliver reliable, mission-critical embedded solutions.
What You’ll Do
- Create innovative product designs from concept through R&D into production.
- Develop and maintain embedded firmware and control software for small aviation and ground platforms (flight and ground control).
- Implement software configuration management and software quality practices.
- Integrate software with hardware components (microcontrollers, memory, EEPROM, FPGA, ASIC).
- Interface with mechanical, electrical, systems engineers, program managers, suppliers, and customers to resolve issues.
- Debug and troubleshoot complex electronic and software interactions.
- Build and maintain test infrastructure, write technical documentation, and verify high-performance operation.
- Apply critical thinking to solve complex technical challenges in autonomous and semi-autonomous systems.
Qualifications
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years developing software for embedded systems.
- Strong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded applications.
- Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and integration with external hardware.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, UART, USB, MIPI, etc.
- Experience with microcontroller selection, memory considerations, and peripheral integration.
- Hands-on system integration and test experience.
- Exposure to semi-autonomous/autonomous systems and aviation control is a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills; able to interact with customers and suppliers.
- Applicant must be a U.S. person as defined under ITAR (required for this position).
Additional Information
- Role Type: Full-time.
- The position may require brief U.S. travel to customer sites for product testing or design reviews.
- New hire is required to travel to Manchester, NH for onboarding and specific training for a period of one to two weeks.
