Position Overview

Confidential client is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer 2 to develop and deliver embedded software for precision-mining and robotics systems. This is a contract role based onsite in Pittsburgh, PA (full-time, first shift). The position may run for 12 months with potential to convert to permanent employment. Compensation: up to $57/hour + benefits. Travel up to 25% domestic may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and test embedded software features from requirements through production deployment.
• Implement precision-mining and robotics functionality using Embedded C/C++ and Python on Linux-based targets.
• Decompose system requirements into software requirements and designs; participate in design/code reviews.
• Troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis for software and system issues.
• Create validation plans and support testing of embedded electronic control systems.
• Work with ROS1/ROS2, OpenCV and machine-learning components, and integrate CAN and Ethernet communications.
• Collaborate with global machine, systems, software, and validation engineering teams in an Agile/Sprint environment.
• Use GitHub-based workflows and cloud services (AWS S3, EC2, Batch) as part of the development and data-management pipeline.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field.
• 2–4 years of relevant industry experience (or a Master's with ~1–2 years).
• Strong programming skills in C and C++; solid Python experience.
• Experience developing embedded software in Linux environments.
• Proficiency with ROS1 or ROS2, and OpenCV and/or machine-learning development.
• Experience with GitHub and modern CI/CD/development practices.
• Experience with CAN and Ethernet communications.
• Familiarity with AWS services (S3, EC2, Batch).
• Ability to read schematics and component datasheets.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, interpersonal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with robotics or autonomous systems.
• Experience developing software for embedded electronic controls, industrial systems, mining equipment, or mobile machines.
• Understanding of the full software development lifecycle: requirements, design, development, integration, testing, and delivery.
• Experience working with globally distributed, culturally diverse engineering teams.
• Clear technical writing and documentation skills.
