What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer 2 to develop and test C++ embedded software for telematics/data collection, ECUs, and radio systems. This is a hands-on, 100% onsite, first-shift contract role in Mossville, IL (may lead to permanent hire).
- Design, develop, and implement embedded software from requirements through production deployment.
- Build modern C++ software in an embedded Linux environment.
- Manage software requirements, write and run test scripts, and verify functionality.
- Investigate, reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve software and system issues.
- Perform SIL/HIL testing and ECU-level debugging in collaboration with architects and systems engineers.
- Use Git and Azure DevOps for source control and CI workflows; apply Python for test automation as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate system and software requirements into maintainable C++ code for embedded Linux targets.
- Integrate and validate software on ECU hardware and lab test rigs.
- Develop and execute SIL/HIL test plans and automated test scripts.
- Debug multi-domain issues (software, firmware, and hardware interaction) using standard debugging tools and lab equipment.
- Collaborate in an Agile environment with global teams, software architects, and systems engineers.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of relevant experience (relevant internships may count).
- Strong experience with Linux, C++, and Git.
- Experience with embedded software development and ECU hardware.
- Technical experience with HIL testing, ROS2, Azure DevOps, debugging tools, Python, J1939 datalink, and Ethernet.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a global Agile team, adapt to changing priorities, and communicate clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing software for telematics, data collection, ECUs, radios, or other connected embedded systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and component datasheets.
- Familiarity with GitHub Copilot and embedded development/test environments.
- Hands-on troubleshooting of embedded hardware/software integration issues.
Compensation & Location
- Location: Mossville, IL — 100% onsite, first shift.
- Pay: Up to $58.00 per hour (contract). Benefits may include vision, dental, health insurance, 401(k), and holiday pay, per the client’s policies.
- Employment type: Contract (12-month assignment with potential for permanent conversion).
