Embedded Firmware and Software Engineer
The Embedded Firmware and Software Engineer at Confidential Client is responsible for designing, developing, and debugging firmware and embedded software for microcontrollers and peripheral hardware. What You’ll Do
This role is responsible for analysis, design, implementation, debugging, testing, and maintenance of embedded firmware and software used in hardware products. You will write and optimize code for microcontrollers and embedded systems, work with hardware interfaces, execute test plans, and collaborate with development and algorithm teams to deliver reliable firmware solutions.
- Develop full firmware/software stack for embedded products including peripheral drivers, data flow frameworks, and integration points.
- Design and implement firmware modules supporting hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO, etc.).
- Write, optimize, and maintain C/C++ code for microcontrollers and embedded processors.
- Implement and validate real-time and deterministic behaviors (RTOS-based or bare-metal environments).
- Diagnose and resolve hardware/firmware interactions via system-level debugging, logic analyzers, and instrumentation.
- Integrate with Linux-based components and support interfacing between firmware and higher-level software.
- Execute established test plans, log and debug issues, and validate fixes across hardware and firmware revisions.
- Collaborate with internal and outsourced development partners and cross-functional teams to ensure product quality.
- Contribute to architecture and design discussions; document designs, test results, and status reports.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience — or demonstrated competence.
- 0–2 years of hands-on experience in firmware development or related embedded software work.
- Proficiency in C; working knowledge of C++.
- Experience with debugging tools and version control (e.g., Git).
- Basic familiarity with Linux and real-time operating systems.
Preferred:
- Experience with microcontroller families and peripherals (ARM Cortex-M, DSP, etc.).
- Familiarity with EFI drivers, EFI applications, BIOS/UEFI, or DSP firmware.
- Experience writing unit and integration tests for embedded systems.
- Exposure to Python for tooling, test automation, or data analysis.

Compensation & Benefits
The pay range for this role is $65,600 to $101,000 USD annually (United States candidates). Total compensation may include bonus and/or equity where applicable. Actual pay will vary based on location, experience, and job-related skills.
