Position Snapshot

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Electronics Engineer to join a Vehicle Communications team supporting embedded systems, machine communications and vehicle networking. This role is primarily field- and shop-focused with hands-on work flashing software, diagnosing CAN/Ethernet communications, collecting operational data, and validating systems.

Estimated salary: $83,311 per year (estimated)

Location: Vets Row, IL — on-site / shop-floor / field work (see Work Environment)

What You’ll Do

• Support troubleshooting and analysis of machine and vehicle communication systems
• Perform software flashing, configuration, and validation activities for embedded devices
• Collect, analyze, and document operational data from machines and vehicles in field environments
• Assist in diagnosing communication issues involving Ethernet and CAN networks
• Use Linux-based systems and diagnostic tools to support engineering tasks
• Participate in shop-floor testing and field investigations as required
• Maintain clear technical documentation and report findings to project teams
• Coordinate with engineers across development, testing, and validation activities
• Adapt to changing project priorities and support multiple concurrent engineering tasks

Work Environment

• 25% Office-based engineering activities
• 25% Shop-floor testing and validation
• 50% Fieldwork involving machine diagnostics and data collection

This role involves travel to client or field sites and time in shop-floor environments; appropriate PPE and safety training will be provided as required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Basic understanding of communication protocols, embedded systems, CAN, and Ethernet networking
• Familiarity with Linux-based tools and command-line diagnostics (or strong willingness to learn)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; team-oriented mindset
• Willingness to travel and work across office, shop-floor, and field environments
• Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced development and validation environment

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

• Coursework or hands-on experience with embedded systems or vehicle networks
• Exposure to software flashing tools, data logging, or diagnostic toolchains
• Practical experience with CAN bus analysis, Ethernet troubleshooting, or related tooling
