Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an Electromagnetic Effects (EMI/EMC) Engineer to support its aviation connectivity program. This role focuses on EMI/EMC analysis, design, testing, and troubleshooting for hardware installed on aircraft and other mobile platforms. The position requires hands-on RF and E3 work across board, subsystem, and system levels and close collaboration with electrical, mechanical, software, and manufacturing teams.


Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis and design for lightning effects, grounding and bonding, circuit isolation, transfer impedance, shielding effectiveness, radiated/conducted emissions and susceptibility, near-field/far-field electrodynamics, and computational electromagnetics.
  • Define EMI/EMC requirements based on physics-driven analysis, and translate those into testable specifications.
  • Characterize and troubleshoot EMI/EMC and RF problems from board level through full system integration, including in-field and post-integration issues.
  • Support certification and regulatory testing activities; document test plans, results, and corrective actions for designated authorities.
  • Operate and maintain EMI/RF/electronics test equipment (spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers/generators, network analyzers, etc.) and independently execute verification campaigns.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (EE, ME, DSP, firmware/software, silicon, manufacturing) to identify root causes and implement robust design and process improvements.
  • Produce clear, accurate technical documentation and test reports; communicate results and recommendations effectively to stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or another STEM discipline.
  • 1+ years of experience in electromagnetic environmental effects work (EMI/EMC requirements, analysis, design, or testing) — internship or professional experience acceptable.
  • 1+ years experience using radio/RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers/generators, and network analyzers — internship or professional experience acceptable.
  • 1+ years programming experience in Python, C#, C++, or MATLAB — internship or professional experience acceptable.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related engineering field.
  • 3+ years of E3/EMI/EMC engineering experience including analysis, testing, and mitigation.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, FAA DO-160, FCC radio/EMC standards and similar regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot EMI/EMC events from PCB/board level to full system integration.
  • Experience reading and interpreting circuit schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, cable harnesses, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and working with CAD tools.
  • Strong foundations in RF engineering, E3 fundamentals, and electrical circuit analysis.
  • Proven problem-solver who can work effectively in fast-paced environments with production or flight hardware.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work long hours and weekends as needed.
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay Range (base salary):
    • Level 1: $105,000 - $145,000 per year
    • Level 2: $120,000 - $175,000 per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Base salary is one component of total compensation and may be supplemented by long-term incentives, discretionary bonuses, stock programs, and a benefits package that can include medical, vision, dental, retirement savings (401k), disability and life insurance, parental leave, paid time off, and other benefits.
