What You’ll Do

Confidential Client (Engineering) is looking for an entry-level to early-career Electrical/Solar Engineer to support the design and delivery of construction documents for utility-scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects (50 MW+). You will work with senior engineers to develop practical, code-compliant electrical designs and construction packages for large-scale renewable energy projects.

• Support design and engineering of utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects under senior engineer guidance
• Develop overall system layouts and single-line/three-line diagrams
• Perform equipment selection and write technical specifications
• Size and route medium-voltage AC and DC cables
• Assist with SCADA and communications design
• Contribute to grounding, protection, control, and wiring diagrams
• Prepare underground collection system and trench layouts
• Perform engineering calculations with training and review (voltage drop, ampacity, conduit fill, equipment loading)
• Produce construction drawing packages using AutoCAD and maintain file/layer discipline
• Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders (clients, utilities, contractors, manufacturers, permitting agencies)
• Support construction-phase needs: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and field issue research
• Participate in QA/QC and internal design reviews to build engineering judgment
• Learn to convert engineering problems into practical design solutions with mentoring
• Follow applicable codes, industry standards, and company safety procedures

Who You Are (Required Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
• 1–3 years of relevant internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience in electrical engineering, solar PV, power systems, or renewable energy
• Exposure to AutoCAD or similar drafting/design software (construction documents, layers, Xrefs, blocks, plotting)
• Basic familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical safety concepts
• Foundational understanding of electrical circuits, power systems, and engineering design principles
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to document work and collaborate effectively
• Ability to manage assigned tasks, follow direction, and escalate schedule/workload risks early
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or interest in pursuing professional licensure
• Internship/co-op or entry-level experience specifically with solar PV, BESS, or utility-scale projects
• Experience designing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
• Familiarity with PVSyst, CYMCAP, ETAP, or similar engineering software
• Exposure to electrical studies: cable ampacity, voltage drop, grounding, short-circuit, load flow analyses
• Interest in utility interconnection requirements and project development workflows
• NABCEP certification (a plus)

Location & Schedule

This position is based in the Kansas City, KS area office and offers a hybrid weekly schedule (combination of in-office and remote work). The client provides a parking spot and will assist with public transportation costs when applicable.

Compensation

• Salary range: $85,000–$120,000 annually (range provided by Confidential Client)
• Employment type: Full-time (Contractor arrangement may apply as noted by the client)
