What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level field-service engineer to support laboratory automation and diagnostic systems. This role focuses on on-site installations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and customer-facing service across the assigned territory with occasional national travel.

• Promptly respond to customer service requests and perform installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs to meet instrument specifications (primary systems include KiestrA, microbiology, molecular systems, and LC/MS).
• Drive field-service revenue by identifying and delivering billable services such as preventive maintenance and equipment moves.
• Communicate clearly with customers: document work performed, set customer expectations and provide follow-up plans when required.
• Coordinate and execute system upgrades with customers and internal teams.
• Log and report customer issues in the company’s systems of record for resolution and investigation.
• Maintain spare parts inventory, company vehicle, and assigned tools and equipment in compliance with policy.
• Use company payment methods responsibly and follow expense guidelines.
• Remain flexible to travel up to 50% of the time (territorial and national travel), including overnight stays when required.
• Participate in weekend/holiday on-call rotation (~every 6 weeks) and be available for national travel if needed.
• Complete vendor credentialing requirements and maintain required identification (Real ID).

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronic Technology, Computer Science, Biomedical engineering or a related discipline.
• Working understanding of electronics, electro-mechanical devices (mechatronics), PLCs and pneumatics.
• Intermediate knowledge of information systems and networking architecture.
• Working knowledge of operating systems and the ability to coordinate routine software upgrades with customer IT and lab leadership.
• Valid state-issued Real ID driver’s license and at least 3 years of driving history (meets auto safety standards).

Preferred Skills

• Experience with robotics and automation systems.
• Experience servicing Liquid Chromatography (LC) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) instruments.
• Familiarity with Lab Information Systems (LIS) and database management.
• Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft or Cisco are advantageous.
• Solid verbal and written communication skills and strong customer-service orientation.

Physical Requirements & Work Demands

• Ability to lift 30–40 lb from floor to chest; push/pull up to 70 lb and carry a 30 lb pack for short periods.
• Frequent sitting, kneeling, squatting, bending and standing during an 8–10 hour shift.
• Repetitive use of hand tools (sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers) and fine-motor tasks.
• Ability to drive up to 6 hours and operate in adverse weather.
• Able to climb portable ladders and step stools.
• May be required to wear a respirator and pass fit testing and annual spirometry.

Work Arrangement & Travel

• Field-based / remote-eligible role with an assigned home territory in Cedar Rapids, IA.
• Travel up to ~50% (territorial and occasional national travel) and participation in on-call rotations.
• Office presence expectations vary by role; this position requires regular travel and on-site customer support.

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly salary range: $27.00 - $43.20 USD per hour (listed by Confidential Client). Actual pay depends on skills, experience, and location.
