What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Electrical Service Engineer to deliver field service, installations, maintenance, and repairs for laboratory and diagnostic systems across the assigned territory and nationally as needed. This is a field/remote role that requires travel, customer-facing skills, and strong electrical/mechatronic troubleshooting ability.

  • Respond rapidly to customer service requests for instrument installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Use electrical, electronic, and computer diagnostic tools and schematic diagrams to return systems to specification.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and drive billable field-service revenue through recommended services.
  • Communicate clearly with customers about the work performed and any required follow-up.
  • Coordinate and schedule system upgrades and software maintenance with customer IT and lab leadership.
  • Log customer complaints and service activity in the appropriate systems of record for investigation and resolution.
  • Maintain assigned service vehicle, spare parts inventory, laptop, tools, and test equipment according to policy.
  • Participate in on-call rotations (approx. every six weeks) and be available for occasional national travel for escalations.
  • Maintain vendor/customer credentialing requirements and follow site access policies (Real ID may be required).
  • Follow company travel and expense policies when using corporate cards.

Location, Travel & Schedule

  • Primary work area: Cedar Rapids, IA (role is field/remote-capable but requires local coverage and travel).
  • Travel: Up to 50% travel outside the home geographic area; both scheduled and unscheduled visits with overnight stays likely for wide territories.
  • On-call: Weekend/holiday on-call rotation roughly every six weeks.
  • Typical shift examples: regional schedule variations apply; expected to support business hours and occasional after-hours work for escalations.

Qualifications (Minimum)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronic Technology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Comfortable with electronics, electro-mechanical devices (mechatronics), PLCs, and pneumatics.
  • Intermediate understanding of network architecture, operating systems, and basic IT interaction for software upgrades.
  • Able to troubleshoot instrumentation, perform firmware/software updates, and work with lab/IT teams on deployments.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license (Real ID where required) with at least 3 years’ driving history and ability to meet client auto safety standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and customer-service skills.
  • Self-starter who can work autonomously in the field and manage time and priorities independently.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with robotics and automation systems.
  • Experience with liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry (MS) instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and database management.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft, or Cisco are advantageous.
  • Understanding of basic computer security and standard IT processes.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 30–40 lb from floor to chest level and carry a 30 lb pack for up to 1 hour.
  • Ability to push/pull up to 70 lb and use hand tools (sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers) repeatedly during an 8–10 hour day.
  • Ability to sit, kneel, squat, bend, stand, and perform fine motor tasks across an 8–10 hour workday.
  • Able to climb portable ladders/step stools and drive up to 6 hours (including in adverse weather).
  • May be required to wear a respirator while servicing equipment — must be able to pass fit testing and spirometry where required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Employment type: Full-time.
  • Hourly pay range (provided by client): $27.00 — $43.20 USD per hour.
