What You’ll Do

This field-based entry-level Electrical Service Engineer role supports the Confidential Client’s laboratory and diagnostic instruments across the Brown Deer, WI region (and nationally as needed). Responsibilities include:

  • Promptly respond to customer service requests and perform installations, preventive maintenance, upgrades, and repairs on laboratory systems (examples: KiestrA, microbiology, molecular systems, LC/MS).
  • Drive field service revenue through billable work such as preventive maintenance and equipment moves in collaboration with service and support teams.
  • Set and manage customer expectations; clearly communicate work performed and next steps.
  • Proactively schedule and complete system software and hardware upgrades with customers and their IT/lab leadership.
  • Report, document, and escalate customer complaints or issues using systems of record.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory, company vehicle, and assigned equipment (laptop, tools, test devices) per policy.
  • Use company purchasing tools responsibly and follow expense guidelines.
  • Travel up to 50% (local and national, scheduled and unscheduled), including occasional overnight travel.
  • Participate in a weekend/holiday on-call rotation (~every 6 weeks) with phone availability and potential national travel for support.
  • Maintain professional appearance and comply with vendor credentialing and customer facility access requirements (Real ID required where applicable).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Technology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Solid understanding of electronics and electro-mechanical systems (mechatronics), PLCs, and pneumatics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of information systems networking architecture and setup.
  • Intermediate understanding of computer operating systems and the ability to coordinate routine software upgrades with customer IT teams.
  • Valid, state-issued driver’s license (Real ID where required) with at least 3 years of driving history and ability to meet the Confidential Client’s auto safety standards.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.; the Confidential Client is not offering visa sponsorship for this role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with robotics or laboratory automation.
  • Experience with liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry (MS) instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with Lab Information Systems (LIS) and database concepts.
  • Certifications such as A+, Microsoft, or Cisco are advantageous.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent customer-service orientation.

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Ability to lift 30–40 lbs from floor to chest level; push/pull up to 70 lbs.
  • Repetitive use of hand tools (sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers) over an 8–10 hour day.
  • Ability to sit, kneel, squat, bend, and stand repeatedly while assembling/repairing instruments.
  • Ability to carry a 30 lb pack for up to 1 hour and drive up to 6 hours in varied weather conditions.
  • Able to climb portable ladders/step stools.
  • May be required to wear a respirator and pass fit testing and annual spirometry.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required for the role.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: USD $60,000 – $80,000 per year.
  • Full-time role with benefits (details provided by the Confidential Client).
  • Relocation assistance: Not available.
