What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking an Electrical Powertrain Software Engineer to support ECU and electrical systems development for engine, transmission, AWD, and electric vehicle control systems. This is a hands-on, engineering role focused on development, verification, and issue resolution across prototype and production vehicles.
- Manage small-to-medium engineering projects: clarify expectations, coordinate stakeholders, and negotiate deliverables and timelines.
- Develop engineering specifications for hardware and embedded software using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and MS Visio.
- Implement and validate ECU control algorithms and interfaces as part of vehicle powertrain systems.
- Perform troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for functional/electrical issues; drive corrective actions through to production.
- Plan and execute testing and verification to ensure electrical performance, quality, and compliance with EMC and certification requirements.
- Contribute to process improvements and evaluate new technologies to increase system reliability and manufacturability.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, systems, test, and suppliers) to ensure system-level conformity to requirements and regulations.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in automotive, electronics, or a related engineering environment.
- Basic understanding of powertrain system functions and vehicle control strategies (engine, transmission, AWD, and EV).
- Familiarity with MATLAB and Simulink for algorithm development; experience with MS Visio or similar for specifications and diagrams.
- Hands-on troubleshooting, testing, and verification skills; comfortable working on prototype and production vehicles.
- Awareness of EMC, certification, and automotive safety/regulatory considerations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with stakeholders and suppliers.
- Willingness to travel occasionally (domestic and possible international) and perform on-vehicle work that may require physical effort.
Preferred (not required)
- Prior internship or co-op experience in automotive powertrain, ECU development, or vehicle testing.
- Familiarity with ECU toolchains, CAN networks, and diagnostic approaches.
Working Conditions & Logistics
- Role is primarily on-site for vehicle testing and lab work; remote work may be possible up to ~20% depending on project needs.
- Work may include electrical component installation/removal on test vehicles and testing in varied climates.
- Occasional overtime is possible during test campaigns or critical project phases.
- Some domestic travel required; international travel possible on occasion.
