What You’ll Do

This entry-level Engineering role supports electric distribution and gas distribution projects for a local utility in Belgrade, MT. You will work on design and delivery of distribution infrastructure projects, supporting new service connections, capacity upgrades, system rebuilds, and relocations while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Design engineering systems to comply with client specifications, codes, and standards for overhead/subsurface electrical and gas distribution projects.
  • Apply creative, practical solutions for electrical, gas, structural, civil, and construction-related challenges.
  • Own project deliverables through the full design lifecycle: initiation, design, construction support, and project closeout.
  • Prepare detailed engineering and construction documents using DDS (Distribution Design Studio), GIS systems, Trimble surveying tools, and client enterprise asset platforms.
  • Analyze topographic surveys, utility atlas data, field sketches, client records, and equipment datasheets to develop accurate designs.
  • Independently manage time and schedules to meet project milestones and deliverables.
  • Conduct field walkdowns with internal staff, clients, customers, permitting authorities, and construction partners.
  • Coordinate permits and easements as required.

Who You Are / Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (ABET-accredited) or related degree.
  • EIT certification preferred.
  • 0–4 years of relevant engineering experience (entry-level through early-career).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of interdisciplinary electrical and gas engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of 2D CADD (AutoCAD or similar) for preparing layout drawings and project materials.
  • Familiarity with Office365, remote communication tools, and common engineering software (GIS, DDS preferred).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with teams and stakeholders.
  • Self-starter who can come up to speed quickly on in-process projects and persist to project completion.
  • Adaptable to change in a dynamic team environment.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with Distribution Design Studio (DDS) or similar utility design platforms.
  • Practical exposure to Trimble surveying equipment and GIS integration.
  • Previous field experience or participation in utility construction or inspections.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving on multidisciplinary engineering tasks.
