Position summary
Confidential Client seeks an Electrical Engineer with an interest in power engineering to support power distribution design, power studies, arc‑flash analysis, and electrical system design. This role is based in Wyoming, MI and is open to early-level engineers or candidates with a few years of experience who want to build a technical career and pursue FE/PE licensure. Contract and full‑time arrangements may be considered.
Key responsibilities
- Perform and assist with electrical power studies for commercial and industrial facilities.
- Complete engineering analyses including:
- Short-circuit calculations
- Arc-flash studies
- Protective-device coordination
- Load-flow and voltage-drop analysis
- Motor-starting studies
- Harmonics and power-quality analysis
- Develop electrical power distribution designs and produce engineering documentation.
- Prepare and review one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, panel schedules, load calculations, and protective-device settings.
- Collect electrical system information via field investigations and site visits; analyze field data and power‑quality measurements.
- Prepare technical engineering reports and review drawings, specifications, and calculations for accuracy.
- Support Project Managers to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Participate in meetings with customers, contractors, and internal teams; assist customers with design, installation, startup, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Support technical proposals, project scopes, and preliminary pricing.
- As experience grows, independently manage smaller power studies and engineering projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited program preferred).
- Strong interest in electrical power, power distribution, or electrical construction.
- Coursework, internship, or professional experience in power engineering preferred.
- Motivation to obtain FE/EIT certification and pursue a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Familiarity with SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, ETAP, or similar power-analysis software is a plus (beneficial but not required for strong entry-level candidates).
- Exposure to arc‑flash analysis, short‑circuit studies, protective‑device coordination, or electrical distribution systems is advantageous.
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and electrical safety best practices is beneficial.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers, project managers, field personnel, contractors, and customers.
