Role summary

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Electrical Engineer focused on substation physical design. This is a hybrid, full-time position based in Eden Prairie, MN. Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 (based on experience).

This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers who want hands-on substation design experience, mentorship from senior engineers, and exposure to utility and renewable-energy projects.


What You'll Do

  • Assist in creating physical substation design drawings with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Collaborate with the drafting team to develop accurate engineering drawings and complete design packages.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations to support substation designs.
  • Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), Basis of Design (BOD) documents, technical reports, and other project documentation.
  • Research and apply applicable state, local, and industry design codes to ensure compliance.
  • Learn and apply engineering principles specific to substation and switchyard physical design.
  • Understand equipment spacing, layout constraints, and equipment functions for substation components.
  • Assist with equipment placement, electrical connection layouts, and detailed design annotations.
  • Coordinate with civil, protection & controls, and other disciplines to support multi-discipline project execution.
  • Work closely with senior engineers to build technical skills, troubleshoot design challenges, and take on increasing responsibility.
  • Seek feedback, ask questions, and actively participate in professional development and technical training.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is preferred.
  • Foundational understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate engineering deliverables.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Problem-solving ability and eagerness to learn new technical concepts.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, meet deadlines, and work as part of a multi-discipline engineering team.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
