What You'll Do

This entry-level Electrical Engineer role supports a growing Power & Utilities division for a confidential client based in Belmont, MI. The position blends office design work with field assignments and on-site testing across Lower Michigan. You'll work with experienced engineers and technicians on substations, utility systems, renewable energy facilities, industrial power systems, and power generation projects.

• Communicate clearly with clients in-person, by phone, and in writing to build trust and repeat business.
• Follow customer and company safety programs in industrial, utility, and construction field environments.
• Complete assigned electrical design tasks and support multi-discipline coordination.
• Learn to use, maintain, and interpret data from electrical test equipment.
• Travel with project teams to customer sites and support field activities including:
  • Testing and commissioning electrical utility equipment and systems.
  • Communicating with protective relays and downloading event reports.
  • Testing SEL and other protective relays, and electric meters.
  • Managing export data from power quality meters.
  • Troubleshooting electrical circuits and equipment.
  • Gathering data for studies and modeling.
  • Performing basic electrical controls circuit modifications and using electrical hand tools.
  • Communicating with and troubleshooting RTUs and PLCs.
• Prepare accurate test reports and technical documentation.
• Model electrical and grounding systems for studies (ETAP or similar).
• Support electrical CAD design and standards in a secondary role.
• Assist developing design and testing standards, prototypes, field tools, and an electrical lab.
• Contribute to early-division growth with high potential for mentorship and career advancement.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; concentration in electric power, controls, or renewable energy preferred.
• Interest in pursuing Professional Licensure preferred for 4-year EE degree holders.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Comfortable using a multi-meter and basic electrical hand tools.
• Intern/co-op experience in substations, power plants, or industrial facilities preferred.
• Lab experience with SEL protective relays and/or utility meters preferred.
• Experience modeling electrical systems in ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, or similar preferred.
• Experience with CAD design software preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills; able to work independently and in teams.
• Accurate, dependable, and well-organized with ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to regularly travel within the lower peninsula of Michigan.
• Ability to work non-standard hours in the field or office as necessary.

• Employment type: Full-time (contractor classification may apply depending on assignment).
• Estimated pay (from source): $88,998 per year (estimated).
• Location: Belmont, MI (role includes regular travel within Lower Michigan).
• Typical distribution: ~60% office / ~40% field (may vary by project and season).
