What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Electrical Engineer (E.I.T) to join their power systems engineering team in Downtown Joliet, IL. This role is ideal for a recent Electrical Engineering graduate or early-career engineer who wants hands-on experience with power system studies, protection, and electrical distribution while progressing toward EIT and PE credentials.

  • Support and perform power system studies for customer facilities, including front-end analysis and scheduled updates
  • Assist with arc flash, short circuit, coordination, load flow, harmonics and power factor studies
  • Help develop and update breaker and relay settings; prepare relay setting files for modern relays
  • Contribute to electrical power distribution design and documentation; review and edit final engineering reports
  • Participate in site walk-throughs with sales and project teams to gather technical requirements and build customer rapport
  • Follow ANSI/IEEE/NETA procedures, OEM requirements, and client-specific safety/testing protocols
  • Build relationships within the Chicagoland electrical community (data centers, contractors, NETA, industrial clients)
  • Work toward gaining the technical knowledge and experience required for NETA credentials and the EIT → PE career path

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Recent or soon-to-be graduate, or early-career engineer with a demonstrated interest in power systems and distribution
  • Coursework or project experience involving power systems, electrical distribution, or related studies
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear, professional engineering deliverables
  • Good communication skills for interacting with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Willingness to support field visits and travel within the Chicagoland area as needed

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Familiarity with power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, PSCAD) — helpful but not required
  • Exposure to relay coordination and protection system concepts
  • Experience or interest in arc flash analysis and NETA testing practices
  • Membership or engagement with local industry groups (NETA, IEEE, local electrical associations)
