Role overview

Confidential Client is seeking an Electrical Engineer, Battery to join their Falcon & Dragon avionics hardware development effort in Hawthorne, CA. This hands-on role covers the full battery life cycle — from cell selection and pack design through validation, production, and flight integration. You'll work across design, test, manufacturing, and reliability to deliver safe, high-performance battery systems for flight vehicles.

What You’ll Do

• Provide ownership of battery assemblies for flight across all phases: concept, design, validation, production, and vehicle integration.
• Support development of battery management systems (BMS), battery pack electrical schematics, layouts, and system-level requirements.
• Define manufacturing and validation requirements from individual cells through full-scale packs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on cell selection, pack configurations, and system integration.
• Drive design changes to electrical schematics and mechanical drawings to improve reliability and manufacturability.
• Design test setups and execute hardware validation: benchtop, environmental, and abuse testing campaigns.
• Optimize pack-level operation for degradation, reliability, and safety.
• Investigate production issues and derive engineering justification to resolve assembly, test, and integration failures.

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 1+ years of hands-on hardware design experience (academic projects, internships, or professional work qualify).
• 1+ years using electrical test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, signal generator, etc.).

Preferred skills & experience

• Strong understanding of BMS design and integration, cell balancing circuitry, and lithium‑ion cell technology and safety features.
• Experience with passive propagation / battery abuse testing.
• Proficiency in MATLAB or Python and strong numerical methods skills.
• Familiarity with electrical simulation tools (LTspice, SIMetrix, or similar).
• Knowledge of common circuit blocks: filters, power supplies, and microcontrollers.
• Experience managing projects from concept through delivery.
• Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
• Strong communication, documentation, and troubleshooting skills; creative problem-solver.

Compensation & benefits

Pay ranges for this role (base salary; actual level and pay determined case-by-case):

• Level I: $105,000 - $140,000 per year
• Level II: $120,000 - $170,000 per year
