Position overview
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Electrical Engineer (Avionics) to join their avionics hardware team in South San Francisco, CA. This hands-on role focuses on PCB design, bring-up, test, and validation for avionics and ground-support electronics that operate at fleet scale. You will work closely with electrical, mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, test, quality, and operations partners to build safe, robust, and manufacturable hardware.
What You’ll Do
- Contribute to design and development of avionics and ground-support PCBAs (digital, analog, sensing, communications, power, and control).
- Support schematic capture, component selection, interface definitions, and board-level integration under guidance.
- Bring up new boards, run bench tests, collect and analyze data, and summarize results for validation and release.
- Collaborate with PCB layout, mechanical, and firmware teams to resolve interface, packaging, thermal, and manufacturability issues.
- Support validation testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigations during bring-up, qualification, manufacturing, or flight testing.
- Help produce requirements, test procedures, design documentation, release packages, and change-control records for avionics hardware.
- Participate in design reviews and evaluate tradeoffs across performance, reliability, manufacturability, weight, power, and cost.
- Work with manufacturing, test, quality, and operations teams to support prototypes, production readiness, and fielded hardware improvements.
- Develop strong engineering judgment by asking questions early, documenting results clearly, and following issues through to resolution.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong fundamentals in analog, digital, mixed-signal, power, sensing, and communication circuits.
- Hands-on experience from coursework, internships, projects, or competition teams with PCBAs, schematic capture, board bring-up, electrical debugging, or hardware validation.
- Practical use of common lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, logic analyzers, and electronic loads.
- Ability to read schematics, datasheets, test plans, and basic layout/manufacturing documentation.
- Familiarity with structured debugging, documenting results, and communicating technical findings clearly.
- Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn from feedback.
- Ability to collaborate onsite regularly with hardware, manufacturing, and test teams in South San Francisco, CA.
Nice to Have
- Internship or project experience in avionics, aerospace, drones, robotics, automotive electronics, satellites, or other high‑reliability hardware.
- Experience with Altium Designer for schematic capture, layout review, or release package generation.
- Experience using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for test automation, data analysis, or lab-equipment control.
- Familiarity with embedded firmware development in C/C++ for board bring-up, diagnostics, or hardware-software integration.
- Experience with CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, GNSS, radios, power electronics, battery systems, or sensor interfaces.
- Exposure to environmental and reliability testing (vibration, thermal cycling, EMI/EMC).

- Employment type: Contractor or Full-time (specific arrangement to be determined by Confidential Client).
- This role requires regular onsite collaboration in South San Francisco, CA.
