What You’ll Do

This entry-level Electrical Engineer role will support nuclear power projects across design, modernization, and plant-life-extension efforts. You will work under the direction of senior engineers and subject matter experts to apply your academic foundation to real-world power systems design tasks.

  • Assist in engineering calculations and design tasks for large nuclear power generating stations, including protection and coordination studies, cable sizing, medium- and low-voltage system design, and DC battery sizing.
  • Use industry-standard analysis tools (for example, ETAP) to model and analyze complex electrical networks and perform transient/stability studies.
  • Support selection, specification, and integration of major electrical equipment: switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), large power transformers, breakers, relays, and related components.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, civil, operations, systems engineering) and participate in design reviews and technical training.
  • Translate engineering concepts into detailed drawings with designers and drafters and support project deliverables under established schedules and budgets.
  • Participate in onsite activities at nuclear facilities (walkdowns, installation witness, testing) and support refueling outages or major project implementations when required.
  • Learn and follow industry standards, internal guidance, and established technical processes to help deliver safe, compliant engineering solutions.
  • Receive mentorship and coaching on the pathway to professional licensure (PE), including opportunities to act as a qualified preparer on project documentation.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering with a strong academic background in power systems and electrical power concepts.
  • Understanding of practical electrical engineering applications — systems, principles, techniques, and procedures used in project design.
  • Knowledge of producing technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Valued (but not required):

  • Degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Coursework in Power Systems Analysis, Electric Machinery, Power Electronics, or similar.
  • Internship or work experience performing power analysis, preferably within the power industry.
  • Experience performing transient analysis using ETAP, SKM, or similar tools.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and Engineer-in-Training designation.
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting (Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations or reports is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $62,998 — $90,586 per year (base salary range disclosed).
  • Estimated market salary for similar roles shown as context; total compensation may include discretionary bonuses where applicable.
