What You’ll Do
As an entry-level Electrical Engineer on the Nuclear team, you’ll contribute to design and modernization efforts for nuclear power projects, including plant life-extension, SMRs, restart projects, and advanced reactor facilities. You will work under daily technical supervision and gain hands-on experience with real-world power systems engineering tasks.
- Assist in preparing engineering calculations and design deliverables for large power-generating stations (protection & coordination studies, cable sizing, medium/low-voltage system design, DC battery sizing, safety-related system analyses).
- Use industry tools (for example ETAP) to perform power systems analysis and modeling for complex electrical networks.
- Support selection, specification, and integration of major electrical equipment (switchgear, MCCs, transformers, breakers, relays).
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams — designers, drafters, operations representatives, and senior engineers — to translate concepts into drawings and project documentation.
- Participate in on-site activities: station walkdowns, installation and test witnessing, and outages as required.
- Follow established technical processes, internal standards, and industry codes to produce safe, reliable engineering solutions.
- Develop time-management and project communication skills while working within project schedules and budgets.
- Pursue professional growth with mentorship toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with strong coursework in power systems or related topics.
- Understanding of practical electrical engineering applications, design principles, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for this role.
Valued (but not required)
- Degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Coursework in Power Systems Analysis, Electric Machinery, Power Electronics, or similar.
- Internship or prior experience performing power system analysis.
- Experience with transient analysis tools (ETAP, SKM).
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam / Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation.
- Programming or scripting experience (Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to support automation and calculations.
