What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking an Electrical Distribution Engineer to design, analyze, and support electrical distribution systems. This role focuses on planning and optimizing distribution networks to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective power to customers.
- Design and plan electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground power lines, substations interfaces, and distribution protection schemes
- Perform technical analyses: load flow studies, short-circuit/fault analysis, voltage drop calculations, and coordination studies
- Optimize network performance for reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
- Lead and manage distribution projects from scoping and design through implementation, commissioning, and close-out
- Prepare and maintain engineering drawings, one-line diagrams, technical specifications, and project documentation
- Identify opportunities for system upgrades, reinforcement, and preventive maintenance programs
- Ensure designs and work practices comply with applicable safety standards, codes, and environmental regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including field technicians, construction crews, project managers, and stakeholders
- Provide technical support to operations and address customer inquiries or outage investigations
Qualifications
We welcome candidates across levels; the role can be filled at entry-level through an Engineer II level depending on experience. Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field
- Proficiency with distribution system modeling and design tools (e.g., CYME, SKM, OpenDSS, ASPEN, ETAP) is a plus
- Solid understanding of distribution system standards and regulations (e.g., IEEE, NEC)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Project planning and management experience, including budgeting and schedule tracking
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for working with internal teams and external clients
- Commitment to safety and quality in engineering deliverables
- Typical target experience: 5–10 years for mid-level Distribution Engineer roles; entry-level applicants with strong fundamentals are also considered
Preferred / Nice-to-have
- Experience with protection and coordination settings for distribution feeders
- Background in utility operations, field commissioning, or construction support
- Familiarity with GIS systems and SCADA telemetry concepts
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or working toward licensure
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: $75,000 — $110,000 per year (range provided by Confidential Client)
- Employment type: Full-time or Contract (dependent on engagement)
