What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring an Electrical CAD Designer to support industrial and water engineering projects from the Lenexa, KS office. This is an entry-level to early-career role focused on producing high-quality electrical design documentation, building and checking 3D models, and supporting cross-discipline project delivery using established company standards and tools.

  • Support project teams by developing schematics, one-line diagrams, plan drawings, and details from engineering sketches, mark-ups, and vendor data.
  • Design duct banks, embedded conduit, cable tray, grounding, and lighting systems from concept through construction documentation.
  • Develop and navigate 3D models to check for interferences and constructability; route electrical cables in a 3D environment and generate cable schedules.
  • Model electrical components using vendor submittals; perform NEC-based conduit and cable tray fill and pull-box sizing calculations.
  • Coordinate design reviews and document control via the project database (RFR process, Holds List, ECN, RFIs).
  • Complete as-built (conformed-to-construction) records using RFIs, ECNs, and red-marked drawings.
  • Participate in project meetings, respond to design check comments, and provide lessons-learned feedback to enhance standards and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Report project progress and issues to Lead Electrical Designers.
  • Use applicable national and local electrical codes in design work.
  • Create accurate plan drawings, details, and deliverables for electrical systems.
  • Analyze designs for safety, operability, maintainability, and consistency.
  • Support cross-discipline coordination with owners, contractors, and vendors.
  • Maintain timely, reliable attendance and meet project deadlines; work overtime/weekends as required for project needs.

Qualifications

  • Associate, vocational, or Bachelor’s degree in Design & Drafting Technology, Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, or related field.
  • 0–2 years of electrical design or related experience preferred but not required.
  • Hands-on experience or coursework with 3D and CAD tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, AutoCAD MEP, or Navisworks.
  • Ability to conceptualize and work in a 3D environment.
  • Proficient with spreadsheets, databases, and PDF/document review tools.
  • Strong written communication (email) and ability to coordinate in virtual meetings.
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to learn, follow established standards, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Location & Schedule

This position is based in Lenexa, KS (postal code 66219). This is a full-time, on-site role with occasional overtime or weekend work as project schedules require.


Compensation & Benefits

  • Estimated salary (as reported): $75,337 per year — actual compensation will be determined by the Confidential Client based on experience and qualifications.
