What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Engineer to join its Employee Development Growth Experience (EDGE) Program in Lynchburg, VA. This role provides structured on-the-job learning and rotational exposure across construction-related functions so you gain the technical and leadership competencies required for an Architect/Engineer I — Construction discipline.
- Support field inspections and document project activities.
- Assist with construction project documentation and quality assurance tasks.
- Learn environmental, maintenance, materials (including pavement and geotechnical) processes and requirements.
- Contribute to preliminary roadway design tasks under supervision.
- Support residency operations activities including budgeting, preliminary engineering, and maintenance coordination.
- Support Right of Way, structure/bridge preliminary work, and bridge safety inspection tasks as assigned.
- Assist with basic traffic engineering and operations tasks.
- Participate in EDGE program training and development activities; perform special duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Minimum)
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, or a related ABET-accredited program by start date.
- Ability to apply engineering knowledge to complete projects and assigned tasks.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the start of employment.
- Skill in basic computer operations (e.g., Microsoft Office, common engineering software workflows).
- Ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam and obtain Engineering in Training (EIT) designation within 12 months of employment.
Preferred / Additional Considerations
- Experience interpreting technical plans and specifications.
- Coursework or experience in roadway design and highway construction.
- Experience or interest in transportation projects (planning, design, construction).
- Possession of EIT at the time of employment is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions, make sound decisions, and identify process improvements.
Compensation & Location
- Location: Lynchburg, VA (on-site/field-based work expected in the region)
- Estimated base salary: $75,530 per year (estimated)
- Employment type: Full-time
