Edge AI/Computer Vision Engineer
The Edge AI/Computer Vision Engineer will deploy AI-driven computer vision solutions for industrial safety by installing and calibrating smart cameras, training and optimizing object detection models on edge devices, and collaborating with controls engineers to integrate detection events with machine controls. This role involves maintaining containerized software stacks, monitoring model performance on-site at manufacturing facilities, and iterating on datasets and models to ensure reliable human detection in restricted areas, contributing to safer industrial environments.
About Careertakes
👉 Important disclosure: Careertakes is a third-party recruiting platform supporting this hiring process. If selected, you will be employed directly by our client, a confidential client in the IT / Internet of Things (IoT) industry.
Applicants for this role may also receive access to additional matched opportunities through the Careertakes platform.
What You’ll Do
You will join a cross-functional team delivering AI-driven computer vision for industrial safety at manufacturing sites. This is a hands-on role that combines field work (camera installation and calibration) with model optimization and edge deployment. Primary responsibilities include:
- Install, configure, calibrate and validate smart cameras at client manufacturing sites to detect people in restricted zones
- Train, optimize and deploy object-detection models to edge hardware (e.g., AXIS ACAP)
- Build and maintain a containerized software stack on Linux, using GitOps workflows for automated build/test/deploy
- Integrate detection events with industrial controls (e.g., digital outputs to stop machinery) and validate end-to-end behavior with controls engineers
- Monitor model performance in production, collect edge cases, and iterate on datasets and models to improve field accuracy
- Travel regularly to client manufacturing sites to support deployments, validation, and performance monitoring
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following baseline qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (completed or in final year) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Proficiency in Python; working knowledge of C/C++
- Strong Linux skills (command line, services, logs, basic networking)
- Hands-on experience with Docker (images, Compose, volumes, container troubleshooting)
- Familiarity with Git-based CI/CD and GitOps practices
- Coursework or project experience in computer vision / deep learning
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to client manufacturing sites
Preferred Qualifications
The following skills and experiences are strongly preferred:
- Experience with CV/DL frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV) and object detection models (YOLO, SSD, or similar)
- Experience optimizing models for edge deployment (TFLite, ONNX, quantization) and familiarity with edge hardware (AXIS ACAP, NVIDIA Jetson, Coral, Raspberry Pi)
- Basic understanding of industrial controls (PLCs, digital I/O, Modbus, OPC-UA) and machine safety concepts
- Experience with IP cameras, RTSP/video streaming, and network configuration
- Prior internships, research, or hands-on IoT / hardware project experience
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with client engineering teams
Compensation & Location
- Location: Detroit, MI (on-site at client manufacturing facilities; regular travel required)
- Employment type: Full-time
- Base salary range: $100,000 – $120,000 per year, plus benefits. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and regional factors.
About the Client
