Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an Economic Assistance Benefits Specialist to join their team in Mobridge, SD. This full-time role (40 hours/week) serves customers by assessing eligibility, verifying documentation, and helping clients access public assistance programs. The position pays $24.77 hourly (depending on qualifications).
What You’ll Do
- Interview and counsel individuals and families to assess current life circumstances and financial capabilities.
- Identify and connect clients with available resources and benefits to support self-sufficiency.
- Obtain and verify documentation and collateral information to determine eligibility for multiple social service programs.
- Interpret and apply relevant policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure accurate benefits decisions.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding social services and benefits with professionalism and empathy.
- Prepare clear, concise documentation, reports, and correspondence that accurately reflect case facts.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders and other service providers to coordinate assistance.
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in social science, behavioral science, human services, business administration, public administration, education, public health, or related fields is preferred.
- Relevant experience in health care administration, finance, accounting, or insurance is a plus.
- Entry-level candidates may qualify with a combination of training and/or directly relevant experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply policies and regulations.
- Proven organization, prioritization, and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated compassion, tact, and professionalism when working with clients.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative.

Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: $24.77 per hour (depending on qualifications).
- Full-time position with standard state benefits: health insurance options (including a $0 premium option where available), dental and vision, retirement (SDRS Class A membership), generous vacation and sick leave accrual, and eleven paid holidays.
- Veterans’ Preference and other state employment policies apply where eligible.
